Subscription service¶
ZenTransfer.io is a subscription service with billing models that cater for occasional to heavy use.
There are two subscription types in ZenTransfer:
- Pay-as-you-go — You pay a low, fixed fee per month and additional charges for consumed bandwidth and storage with a price per file transferred and/or stored.
- Prepaid plans — You pay a fixed amount each month which includes a quota that covers both storage and transfers.
Which model to choose¶
If you use ZenTransfer only occassionally, and do not plan on storing files in ZenTransfer for a long time, the Pay-as-you-go plan will be beneficial.
If you use ZenTransfer in your daily workflow, or transfer large amounts of files, the prepaid plans will be beneficial. Storage and bandwidth is calculated based on actual usage in MB, instead of a fixed fee per file.
Transfers¶
ZenTransfer uses the world's best networks and cloud services to ensure fast and reliable transfers and a service quality that matches the needs of professional photographers. Aside from developing the service and supporting our customers, costs are driven by storage and bandwidth.
The following events are considered billable in ZenTransfer:
- Transfer. A Transfer is a single transfer event, e.g. sending a file to a remote FTP server. If you transfer a file to 3 different servers, that is billed as 3 transfer events.
- Download. A Download is a user-invoked action, e.g. from the ZenTransfer user interface or a link received via email. If a user downloads three files, that is counted as three billable download events. If a user downloads the same file multiple times from the same computer over a short time period, that is only counted as a single download evnt (e.g. broken connection or user error).
- Store. If you configure the retention policy to more than 24 hours, a billable Store event is emitted for each file every 30 days. A Store event is also emitted for every file saved into a gallery, and every 30 days it lives in the gallery. Storage is included in the prepaid plans up to the plan quota.
- Upload. If a file is uploaded, but no destinations are enabled, a single billable Upload event is emitted to cover the ingestion and processing costs.
- SMS. Files shared via text messages (SMS) are billed per message. The system will automatically batch transfers to reduce the volume of messages per recipient according to carrier guidelines. (Available on Enterprise plans only.)
Galleries¶
ZenTransfer Galleries are designed for broad access and sharing. When using Galleries you pay for the storage. Access to and downloads from Galleries are free of charge.
Storage and Bandwidth on the prepaid plans¶
The prepaid plans come with an included quota for storage and bandwidth and fixed costs per month. As an example, the 5GB plan allows you to store up to 5GB of data in your account and transfer 5GB of data each month. If you upload 1GB of data and transfer all files to five different destinations, this will use 20% of your storage quota and 100% of your transfer quota.
If you use more than your allocated quota, you will be billed for overage per GB of extra data usage.
Understanding your bill¶
You can monitor your current usage charges and how much of your quota you have consumed by clicking the View Billing button.
You will be able to see an overview of number of transactions, used bandwidth and storage, and an estimate on your overage and total bill. The screen defaults to showing the current period (month), which will be billed at the end of the period. You can switch to see the previous period to see the details of your last invoice.
The screen also shows graphs with daily activity and data usage, and finally a detailed table over all your billed transactions.
